Sea Change Mentoring has created its first Board of Advisors. Made up of visionary international school leaders; entrepreneurs in education and technology; and one of the most respected youth mentoring researchers in the world, this group is pretty spectacular. With the Council of International Schools adding transitions support to their 2016 accreditation requirements, the growing interest in both mentoring and personalization in the international school world and with Sea Change Mentoring landing the Singapore American School partnership, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Over the course of the next two weeks, we will be introducing these new members to the rest of our Sea Change Mentoring community.

Sea Change Mentoring welcomes Naomi Hattaway, Founder and Executive Director of I Am a Triangle to our Board of Advisors. I Am A Triangle provides global nomads, expats, TCKs, repats and NGOs with online support before a move, during life abroad and during the process of returning “home.” It is an online and in person community of almost 16,000 members all over the world.

Naomi and Sea Change Mentoring’s CEO, Ellen Mahoney, know each other from the expat services and support community and through work with organizations like Families in Global Transitions.

“I have been impressed with Naomi’s ability to cut through so much noise and build an online community made up of all kinds of people from all over the world. What is even more impressive is how she has been able to nurture a compassionate and kind culture in that community.”

Naomi enthusiastically explained,

“It’s often said that I Am A Triangle is the warmest, kindest place on the internet, and we agree wholeheartedly! We believe in collaboration, joint responsibility and the power and value an individual brings to our community”.

As Sea Change Mentoring grows and builds its own communities of support for its school clients and mentoring pairs, it was clear to Ellen that having Naomi on the team would be tremendously helpful.

“On top of her business acumen, Naomi also lived overseas, raised a family overseas and went through the rollercoaster of repatriation with them, so she gets the importance of this work.”

When Naomi accepted  the position she told us she was “honored and humbled” and that she was  “excited to be a bigger part of what [we] are creating.”

Naomi is passionate about community building and empowering others to thrive, not just survive, in the places they call home. After living in several locations in the United States, her family (three kids, now ages 21, 13 and 10) moved overseas to Delhi, India where she learned to thrive in the midst of chaos. Following a one year stint in Singapore, they are now back in the United States, and she has traipsed her way from Florida to Virginia and is now – for the time being – in Ohio.

Intent to make an impact in the world – one zip code or postal code at a time, Naomi’s determined focus has culminated in the creation of the I Am A Triangle site which brings the best of the best in the expat/life abroad space to one comprehensive location.

The community is making the big migration and “relocation” from Facebook to a new platform called Mighty Network, where the community can be better supported and continue to grow in a meaningful and impactful way. Join the community for the launch of the new platform on International Infinity Day, August 8th.
